The four and thirty-five minutes video clip about the life of Dado Banatao shows his journey from where he started and where he had been right now. It also shows the ups and downs of his life. It tells us that we can also be successful like what he is right now. He want to help the Filipino people to be successful like him. He want to help the Philippines to improve its economy.
Dado Banatao’s family were living in the rural Philippines. Their family were poor but still he graduated from grade school because his father strive hard and work hard to let him study. Most of his friends and classmates prefer to not continue studying in high school but instead they want to help their family in the farm. He also want to help his father in working in the farm, yet his father want him to continue his study to high school even though his father will double his effort in working in the farm. He started his high school and as a normal student, he never avoided having an insecurities or discouragements. He always thought that he feel out of place, because of the fact that he came from a farm, a rural place, compare to his classmates who were living in city. Maybe he had a rough time dealing with them because they had a different lifestyle. Maybe he never had a friend or companion in his high school life. It is hard to live in a place where you are far from your family and yet you did not have even just a one friend. Still he survive and finish his high school, despite of difficulties he had experience. After he graduated, he then took up a degree course in engineering. The situation of their family made it his inspiration to continue studying. After he finish his course, he then look for a job that fits the degree that he finished. Unfortunately, his dream to be a designing engineer is not possible here in the Philippines. He could not find a job which he want to be. So he decide to travel abroad and look for a job. Instead he took up a master in engineering first before he look for a job. He studied in Stanford University, so he expected to be intimidated with the people around him or his classmate. They were smarter compare to him. He thought he is smart enough, but then when he went there, he was wrong. Despite of that and other difficulties, he afford to finish his master degree. Obviously, it was hard for him to study and live there because he was too far already from his family. Compare to when he was just studying in high school, and he is still far from his family. After he graduated, he look for a job. He designed the first chipset on PCs today. Then he decided to make his own company. Unfortunately, it failed. No one told him he can do it, so that was the reason he thought why he failed. So he told to himself that he can do it. Then, unexpectedly, it was a success. Now he has been a successful and famous person. He succeeded because of his hard working.
When the time he finish his grade school, most of his friends and classmates stopped schooling to help their family in the farm. Like what other children want to do in their lives, he also want to help his family in the farm, instead of continuing his study in high school. Yet his father do not want him to be like what other children do. His father did not ask him to help in the farm. His father want him to continue his high school. That is why his father was striving and working hard for him to continue his study in high school. He also strive hard in his studies to recoup to his father’s effort. He had been so persevere to finish his high school. Yet he experience being insecure in his school. He feel different from his classmates. He was thinking that his classmates were from the city, compare to him that he is living in a farm. Yet he still tried his best to put off his insecurities. He just study hard for his family and for his future, instead of caring about his classmate. After graduating in high school, he continue studying in college. He took up a degree course in engineering and graduated. Because our country is lacking of work in design engineering, he went to America to take a master in engineering. He feel intimidated because most of his classmates were too smart than he had been. Yet he still strive hard, finish his studies and graduated again. After that, he work hard. Then he was known for designing the first PC chipset. After that achievement, he decided to make his own company, but unfortunately, it failed. So he told to his self that he can do it, because no one told he can, but still he succeeded. Like him we can also be successful if we are just persevere in the things we want to be. We should not be discourage easily because of some insecurities we feel and whenever we experience failures. Like when we did something and then it failed. We should not stop there because we just experience failure. It is just a one failure, compare to the dreams that we have. Even if we failed in how many times, we can try it again and who knows it could be successful in the second time or how many times around. To be successful like him, we should know also what we really want to our life. Like what profession we want to be, so that you will know the things you need to do to become the profession you want.
One thing that Dado Banatao also do was he believes in his self, his talent, his skills and whatever he is capable of. Like when he started studying in high school, he feel out of place because he was just the only one who is living in a farm compare to his classmate who were living in the city. He had a different lifestyle compare to his classmates. Maybe he got a hard time having a friends in his high school days. Having a friends is one of the factor to enjoy the school. It is hard to not have a companion and just being alone. While his classmates were wasting time playing basketball, he prefer to spend his free time just studying. Despite of being different from the others, he still believe he can study well and finish what he started, that is why he graduated and succeeded in his high school life. He thought he can be successful here in the Philippines, so he prefer to travel to other country and find the real meaning of success. When he went to America, he believes that he can be successful there even though he was not that sure that he could succeed. When he took up a master in engineering, even though most of his classmate were smarter than him. He still believe that he can finish what he started and just study harder. Until he made his own company, even though no one told him that he can. He still believe in his self, his skills, his talents and his capability. He never thought he could be that successful. It is not that bad to believe in our self, in our skills, in our talents and in where we are capable of. If we know that we are good at something, we should enhance it and develop it more. It could help us to make our future a successful one. Like when you are good at drawing and you also love doing it. You should practice it more so that you will really be good doing it. You do not know the future, maybe you would become a famous animator to one of your favorite anime. Or maybe you are good at writing, a song, a poem, a story or anything that you can write. Someday you will become a famous song writer or an author. We should just believe in our self like what Dado Banatao did. Because he want the Filipino people to be like him, to be successful, we should also do what he did. We should always believe in our self to make everything impossible possible.
Dado Banatao never stop learning new things. After he finish his degree in the Philippines, he thought that after graduating, he can find a job right away. But there was no available job for the field he want to be here in the Philippines. So he decide to travel abroad and instead of just looking for work, he prefer to take up a master’s degree of his course. Maybe he thought he can find a better job if he will take a master’s degree. He never stop learning new things even though he can just find a job there fitted to his course. Like him, we should also never stop from learning. Even though we are too old to learn new things, until we still have a motivation and determination to study.
According to the quote of Vince Lombardi, “The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” It means that people look for job for a living, to earn money and buy foods for their family and pay the necessary needs (house, electric bill, water bill). Most people think of job only to earn cash and pay their debts only a few have pure passion for their job and determined to work hard for it. You can say people work hard but you can’t really say if they had passion on it. People working hard without passion are often exhausted after work because they do not gain pleasure of their work. One can only apply pure dedication to job if they experience pleasure and satisfaction on their work place. If you are passionate on your job you are really dedicated to it and people with dedication often got promoted on their jobs because they have the most positive outcome that you could think of its field. If your boss seeks for a reliable high ranking officer they always want the hard workers that are passionate and do not take failure as an option, idealistic and creative. You cannot be at your best if you don’t dedicate yourself to it thus, that lack of determination will make you stagnant in your current rank because you are not stepping up on anything and not being creative on your work, sometimes you can think of more simple methods like time management or you could discover ways to hasten your work make it easier and not hindering your quality of work by that you could even work thrice as normal without adding much effort than usual. Sometimes even if you are passionate on your work you will encounter problems it’s inevitable. If you encounter such don’t lose your passion and give up easily, take a break and avoid stressing yourself so much to work, drink a cup of coffee or maybe tea to ease your mind and try to think what could’ve been the problem. This way you could be less exhausted and your work is still satisfying, you can still find some fun in it. Not all fun resides in the bars or beaches don’t think work as exhaustion for everyday life, make work exhausted to you. Determine yourself and live a less stress life and always at best with it comes to work. Success might be very expensive to even reach but, its price is cheap if you keep optimism, dedication and determination upon yourself.
Dado Banatao was born on May 23, 1946 in Malabbac, Iguig, Cagayan Philippines. His father, Salvador Banatao, was a farmer and later worked as an overseas Filipino worker in Guam while Dado was only nine years-old. His mother, Rosita Banatao, was a simple housekeeper. Banatao is known for his rags to riches story. During his childhood, he walked barefoot on a dirt road just to reach Malabbac Elementary School. He pursued his secondary education at the Jesuit-run Ateneo de Tuguegarao. After high school, he pursued his Bachelor of Science in Electric Engineering from the Mapúa Institute of Technology and graduated cum laude.
After college, he turned down several job offers, including one from Meralco. He joined Philippine Airlines as a trainee pilot, and was later pirated by Boeing. At Boeing, he worked as a design engineer for the company's new commercial airliner and cargo transport aircraft, Boeing 747, in the United States. With the opportunity to stay in the United States, he then took his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Stanford University and finished in 1972. Banatao also joined the Homebrew Computer Club, where he met Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.
After finishing his master's degree, Banatao worked with different technology companies such as the National Semiconductor, Intersil, and Commodore International where he designed the first single chip, 16-bit microprocessor-based calculator. In 1981, he discovered and invented the first 10-Mbit Ethernet CMOS with silicon coupler data-link control and transreceiver chip while working in Seeq Technology. He was also credited for the first system logic chip set for IBM's PC-XT and the PC-AT; the local bus concept and the first Windows Graphics accelerator chip for personal computers.
His life has been hard from the start but by the support of his mother and father. He aimed higher carrying his perseverance and determination to make himself a better person and not to make his family suffer poverty again, from rags to riches. He even met known big people and billionaires, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. And he even invented a better computer chip that no one had ever thought of possibly made. Dado Banatao’s story was so inspiring to know especially when you come from a poor family it gives them hope and determination to become one like him but not only Dado has inspired many Filipinos but also he have passed a message to all of them that everything is possible with determination and endure all the hardships till the end and you will be rewarded greater than you ever thought and after all that sacrifices you could chin up and proud of yourself of where you have been and where you are now. Never forget where you came from carry the culture you grown with, it will help you climb to the top unraveled.
Here is another inspiring Filipino-American but in a different situation. Raymond Martin is born January 2, 1992 a Filipino-American Paralympic athlete. He won four gold medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in the T52 wheelchair racing category. Raymond Martin was born with a congenital deformity. His fingers are permanently bent. His feet are clubbed and his wrists are stiff. He had been through 17 surgeries since he was a baby. Her mother said it was upsetting at first. But then he thought about the next step how to make him functional and how to make him do things for himself.
Raymond did not let his disability get in the way for achieving his dreams. He really wanted to become an athlete. He began competing while he was 7 at National Junior Disability Championship. Raymond felt free like he don’t have any disability every time he was on the track racing and going fast. In the year 2012 Raymond inspired millions of people with disabilities when he won four gold medals at the Paralympic Games in London. He was also nominated as “Best Male Athlete with Disability” in ESPN’s ESPYS Awards. He is training for the upcoming 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil. Raymond is using his celebrity status to help and inspire people with disabilities and encourage the disabled athletes to work harder and gain fame. He is looking forward to help raise money to keep Paralympic Sports Clubs in New York and New Jersey area running. “Anything is possible, if you put your mind to it. Unlike Dado Banatao, Raymond is wealthy and did not experience poverty but his disability is a big hindrance of his bright dream to become an athlete. Even though he is handicapped he never lost sight of his dream and persevered with a bit of hope and determination. Handicapped people are often laughed at or made fun with but most people don’t know the suffering of it, someone might say they know how they feel but no, they don’t until they experience being incapable to hold, walk or even run. They often lost heart and refuse on living and only a few have faith and self-confidence to continue. Raymond enlightens many individuals of how hard it is to live a life incapable of running. Raymond is invigorating all disabled individuals and even inspires them to be productive and become an athlete, meet people who are the same as them and feel comfortable that they never felt before.
These two individuals started differently but they have the same value to make themselves known and inspire people to be proud whatever the hardships they may have. Face every problem with no fear knowing yourself and not discouraging yourself because of what people say. Stay Determined, Persevere, and Have Hope and someday eventually you will become a person that everyone can be proud of.
There are millions of different things with these many, we cannot do it all in a lifetime. In your life you will meet different individuals with different perspective, different beliefs, different cultures, and different personalities. All people are different including you. Thus, different opportunities and not all people can grab each opportunity they come by. Not all people can be successful in an instant. You should not say luck is your only hope in fact, luck often used when something unusually good happens but if you look at the big picture, for instance, you trip yourself by a rock and hit your head straight on the floor and you have been left unscathed, and you think that is luck? It is not. By law of physics it can be explained why, you might have fallen high but you unconsciously absorb some in the impact considering the momentum and force you exerted and the surface you have fallen, was not it amazing to look at the bigger picture and figure out it was not luck after all. Keep in mind that “Luck is no excuse” if you have earned a good opportunity you deserved it, work for it, and don’t let it slip away. Every opportunity has its key factors or certain criteria to determine how an individual could fit on such job. Be wary of it and study for it always be prepared avoid negative thoughts and focus on how you will handle the interview lightly and positively you should overwhelm the interviewers with your presence and eventually interviewers will like you and put you up to list. Being optimistic they say is crazy but being optimistic really helps a lot. When you think positively your mind relaxes and remembers the things you prepared for and it is healthy to your whole system, without stressing thoughts your mind would not command your body to shiver , stutter, and sweat these 3 affect so much of your image it is disturbing and at the same time disgusting to see. Great things happen if you think straightly positive, but limit yourself and get real. There are scenarios that even optimism would not help the obvious and inevitable failure of something. Post-modern projects are so calculated and systematic and you can determine obvious flaws of the project. You must learn to be a smartly optimistic person, never fool yourself thinking positively when you know it is not even worth a shot.
There are a lot of factors to have a determination in our career in life. I treat my family as my inspiration to be determined and motivated in my studies. Every time I feel discourage in finishing the field I am right now, I will just think about them. Our family is poor compare to other people who can afford studying in private schools. People who can afford shopping whenever they want to. People who can afford to eat in an expensive restaurant. People who can afford to travel wherever they want. Our family came from an island far away from Davao City. We came here to make our life much better than what we are before. I could not say that we are that rich already compare to what we are then. My mother is just a house wife. My father is just an operator and driver of our own PUJ. Both of my parents did not finish college. That is why they cannot get a job that can afford everything that we need in our studies. The important thing is they can afford feeding us three times a day. Still we have a stock of foods we never we want to. We still have necessary things available whenever we need to. Both of my parents strive hard to make us live every day. We were three now who were studying in college. In this statues of our family we are right now could not afford to pay tuition for a three college student. Yet my parents try harder to make it possible. As their daughter, I should recoup the things they have given me. The things such as a shelter, foods, clothes and everything that is necessary for a person to live. Now, I am studying so hard to give them back the things they have given us. Despite of the difficulties and struggles I am experiencing right now, I still want to finish my study. Whatever I may encounter, I will face them wholeheartedly. Nothing can stop me from achieving things that I want. I want to look for a decent job and maybe I could travel abroad to look for a better job. I want to give them the things that they deserve for giving their all to make us possible to study. My family is one of my inspiration to be determined and motivated in reaching my goals. I will graduate first before other things. I feel much more inspired with my parents because they can even afford to send us to college even sometimes we were out of budget for the things we daily need. I do not want them to expect for nothing. I want them to expect the unexpected.
There is also one person that I made as my inspiration to reach my goals in my life. He is my best friend, my best enemy, my partner-in-crime, my brother from another mother, my motivator, my lover, my partner, and my everything. I met him four years ago, in a social networking site, specifically, Facebook. Thank you Mark Zuckerburg for creating Facebook and making our love story possible. It was on May four twenty eleven, when it started on a first chat, and I was also curious about who is he. I replied on him because he is the one who started to chat. After that day, we started to chat every day and we started to get to know each other every time we chatted. We share our likes and dislikes. We share our experiences. We share our favorites. We share even the things we did in the past, in the present and also the things that will still happen in the future. After all of that things, we change our statues as strangers into friends. Many months later of sharing everything about our life. Out statues change to best friend. I treat him as my best friend because I feel comfortable whenever I talk to him. I shared to him every tiny things that happen to me every day. There was a time when we first met personally. The feeling of being joyful whenever I talk to him, turn into being shy to him. So that time, I was rude at him because he is so annoying. I told him not to touch me because I feel so uncomfortable when I look at him. So I got irritated and shouted at him. Yet his treat on me never change. After a few years when we started to be in college. We both never know that we will enter in the same University. That is why our friendship much bloom than before. We talk every day, we accompany each other always. Despite of the fact that we never have too much friend in the University. We did have yet they have their own life having a new friends. We started to know each other more and more every day. Until the time comes that we started to fall from each other. I never thought that he started to like me when we were still best friend in our high school days. Actually, we are not in the same high school. That is why we never see each other that often. Then because of that, he started to accompany me always, he treat me foods, we go to malls or maybe it is having a date. He never told me that he is courting me. I never thought too that he is courting me already. Then there were a time comes where I started to notice about the things he is doing for me. It never seems so normal, so I ask him about it. Then there when it started our fruitful love life. Other people think that having that kind of thing could just destroyed my studies. For me, it is depend on the person who can handle and manage its time properly. Manage its task, if ever they make their love life their priority. He is one of my priorities, but then he knows too that we are both studying and we cannot just let our studies be destroyed by each other. So for now, he is one of my inspiration which made me more determined and motivated in my studies. In reaching my goals. I feel more inspired to finish my studies and look for a better a job. And make our own family, because we know that we can stay by each other’s side. Whatever happens, even we are not together anymore. We can still be best friend and will inspire each other.
People like Dado Banatao should be imitate by everyone. Just like him I have also some part of my life which I succeeded. When we were given a task to make a five thousand words reflection, if I could finish it, for me it is already an achievement. Not everyone has the opportunity to experience that kind of task. It could help me develop my skills in writing, most especially that I am not that good in English language. In grade school my achievements were, one of it is when in my second year in grade school, I got a With Honors, best in writing and most behave awards. Honestly, I really love writing, literally writing with the pen. In my third year in grade school, I got a With Honors award again. In my fifth year in grade school, again a With Honors award. Then in my last year in grade school, I never expected to be one of the Honorable student. It is one of the biggest achievement which I never thought that I could possibly get. I never expect to graduate in grade school as an Honorable student. Perhaps, I am the only one in our family who graduated with Honors ever. Which became the biggest achievement of my life. Additionally, in my grade school days, I have been to a violin school also which I learn how to play them. It was a good experience actually, but I never succeeded in time. It is just that my schedule in my high school could not fit in the schedule in violin school. Brighter side of it is that, they teach us how to play violin for free. In my high school life, I never thought that my luck in achieving things would never stop. In my first year in high school, I am one of the Honors student again. That was a big one already. Then in my second year in high school, I never expected to be an Honors student again after my first year. It is not only With Honor, but a Fourth Honorable student. I was so happy to get that place. I never thought to get an award higher than a With Honors. Then in my third year in high school, I started to become addicted in anime. Which may be the reason that I never been in the Honor students anymore. Despite of that, I had an award of Best in Computer subject. Which was the reason why I took up this course I am right now. I thought that I am good in this field. But now, maybe I am not. Yet I will still try my best to be successful. Until I reach my last year in high school. I never expected anymore to be one of the Honors student. I feel a little bit lazy because of too much anime and too much surfing in the internet which lead me to sleep late every night. And which also damage my eye sight. Despite of that, I made all of my achievements as my inspiration to be determine to finish my study now in college. I will share it to my future children and grandchildren, what my life is right now. I will teach them how to be determine in their studies and in their lives. I will share to them a lot of things which may help them to be inspired.
