Overview
A
one day minor trip as part of the Course Field Trip & Seminar in Sutherland
Global Services Philippines, Inc. in Poblacion District, Davao City. The trip
was not that exciting compared to our five days trip in Metro Manila, but still
I keep myself focused and still participated in our educational tour. Other
than that, I still learned some things about Sutherland Global Services, most
especially about their IT Department.
Day 1
Today,
December 10 in the morning, I went on a seminar to Sutherland Global Services
Philippines, Inc. in Poblacion District, Davao City.
What I learned?
Other
than the knowledge I have that Sutherland Global Services is a Business Process
Outsourcing (BPO), we also learned some things about their IT Department such
as how they handle security in terms of network and databases which they
assigned VLAN for every program and only specific URLs or IP addresses can be
accessed. They also have Websense filter which filters non-business related
websites. There are also situations which their IT team can control and cannot
control. The controlled situations are when the cause is within their equipment,
network bandwidth, server policies, or local issues. While the uncontrolled
situations are when the cause is on their clients end, the vendors end, or
third party partners. I also learned that Sutherland Global Services is one of
the largest, independent Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies in the
world. Their industry focus on communications, retail, travel, transportation,
and logistics, technology, banking, mortgage, healthcare, and government. They
also provide incentives based on someone’s performance which they can use to
help their educational finances.
What I liked?
I
liked when after the discussion and tour, the speaker asked some questions from
us and what are the things that we had learned, and whenever someone
participates, he will give him/her a freebie. Also when everyone received a
free keychain from their company. I also liked that the speaker, Mars Ninte, is
a USeP alumni. And also when two of the IT Department of Sutherland Global
Services or their GTI Engineers, Mark Rudolph Espanueva and Marben Labonete,
gave us even a little of their time just to share to us about their activities
and gave us answers from the questions that some of us gave.
What I didn’t like?
I did not liked
our company visit/educational tour because they only shared to us what their
company all about, just by showing us presentations and videos which seems
boring. I think most of us has knowledge already about what Sutherland Global
Services is, that is why I think the majority felt bored.
